The project is expected to run by the end of 2026 and supply more than 200,000 homes; Masdar and Khazna will also explore green data centres in Greece.
Masdar, the UAE's clean energy company, has agreed to acquire and develop a solar photovoltaic project of more than 550 megawatts in Greece from Lightsource bp, Masdar said on 24 October.
The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2026 and to produce enough electricity each year for more than 200,000 homes. Battery storage is planned, and the transaction includes two privately owned substations.
Masdar and Khazna Data Centers also signed a memorandum of understanding to explore developing green data centres in Greece, pairing renewable power with digital infrastructure.
The deal builds on Masdar's existing presence in the country. It completed a 100% acquisition of TERNA ENERGY in April 2025, after buying an initial 70% stake in November 2024 that valued the Greek company at EUR 3.2 billion.
The acquisition was announced during the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's official visit to Greece, when the two countries announced 18 agreements worth EUR 12.75 billion. For the UAE, overseas renewable assets of this kind add to the portfolio that Masdar funds partly through green and blue bonds issued from Abu Dhabi.
